Gold Coast Health Plan Formulary Update: Managed Care Plan Offers Free Meters to Diabetic Members

Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) and its pharmacy benefit manager Script Care, Ltd. have teamed-up with Nipro Diagnostics, Inc., a diabetes lifestyle management company, to give away free blood glucose monitoring meters and test strips to Plan Members. This offer can be used for all diabetic Members including those using Medicare.

"We understand the importance of accurately managing our diabetic Member population," said Earl Greenia, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, Gold Coast Health Plan. "We've taken these steps to demonstrate our commitment to providing the highest standard of care for our Members."

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), reports that diabetes affects 25.8 million people of all ages or 8.3 percent of the U.S. population. "The effects of poorly controlled blood glucose levels can cause serious complications for patients with diabetes," said Charlie Cho, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, GCHP. "Patients need to manage their diabetes, understand low and high blood glucose levels and track them on a daily basis."

Script Care will host 3 events at participating pharmacies to dispense meters—at no cost or co-pay—to GCHP Members. The locations, dates and times are as follows:

December 14th
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

December 15th
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

December 16
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
